Comet

Blazing across the sky

Before or long after 

We have ever seen

Or will see

The real time light

But it has traveled so far

To show us

Brilliance

Marvelous show

Of time

Of space

Of beauty

One moment

Of looking down 

At a shoe in a puddle

Seeing the beginning

Of hope reflected

In the smooth glass

Of water 

Of the dark sky

Oh, look up

And see it

Marvel at the gift!

Jumping Ship

Daddy

You ran the ship aground

Expecting me to paddle

In the dirt

I tried to dredge up rocks

To make us go forward

So loyal

So naive

So hopeful

But we just went deeper

Into darkness

I kept looking up

Seeing the sun

On the horizon

On the smooth glass water

I want a ship of my own

Me as captain at the helm

Mighty and powerful

To reach that horizon 

Without you

Into the next day

And the next

And the next

There will be no anchor

Only propulsion

No weighty drag.

From the seat of my soul

Ones of beauty and hope

I reach out for you

Like my own mother's hands

Pulling you close

To move forward

Of light and progress.

The edge is the end
But it's where the sun rises
Where it goes further on
In the evenings too
To rest
To bring forth life
To cover our world
In light
Most people think
The end is final
But it's only
The beginning.

Shoulder it
From first memories
Under the bed
Mom Dad
Four feet
Scuffle-punch
She fell
I covered my mouth
So scared
So confused
Oh, mommy, don't cry
Brain screaming
Heart in flames
Fast forward
Hands in places
They don't belong
Not my father
Not my real father
I'm not real

Don't let me be real
Lightning from the sky
Strike me down
Bury my soul
Give rest
In darkness
In dirt
